Happy New Year to everyone...I figured it was about time that I shared my new space with you. It's hard for me to believe but I have been working here for six months already!
Its just a tiny place, 9x10 feet...but it is ever so cozy and inviting. I admit it felt pretty weird to get up in the morning and get ready to go to work instead of just padding down the hall in my bare feet and PJ's to work in my home studio. Do I miss being able to work in my PJ's...sure, but it doesn't compare to the feeling I get when I arrive at my new space...my little piece of heaven away from home.
I love that I can spread those doors wide in spring, summer and fall and let the birdsong and breezes in...and enjoy the view of that big old Maple tree. I even have a cat who visits me and a resident squirrel who chats away in the branches by my door.
I had a local carpenter craft me some big old cedar shelves that go all the way to the ceiling...When I open up in the morning the scent of cedar greets me and cheers me. I love that I have so much space now to store my supplies. It was a wise move to get floor to ceiling shelves.

I also like that I get lots of visitors...especially in the summer and fall when all the tourists are visiting. I have met so many wonderful people and have had some interesting chats about my work and studio space.
It's been funny to watch people peer through my doorway, then they slowly come inside to look at all the curiosity's that line my shelves...I have been told that my studio makes them feel young again and I have heard them say..."It feels really good in here!" Good energy is a wonderful thing to share.
This space is still a work in progress and I have left lots of space on the walls to hang my hooked rugs and perhaps more shelves. As time moves along I know it will become even more magical, warm and inviting.
For now I am content knowing that I have a sweet spot to share with all my wee friends...mice and rabbits; cats and bats...treasured books and glass jars filled with glitter.
Imagination and creativity...I let my mind wander to new places. To dream up new things, hands and heart to work.
I am thinking of what is to come this new year...all the things that I would like to do. Every morning when I arrive at my studio I take a little walk down to the ocean which is a short stroll away...and I stand at the end of the pier and gaze into the sun...and I look around at this beautiful place...and I am thankful!
Peace and well being...in a world so full of strife...look inward and know what is important...the little things around you, the everyday routines that make up our lives. They are important and special...treasure these times because that can go away in an instant. I live in a place of peace and beauty and I am grateful!
My wish for all of you is that you too find your sweet spot...your place of peace and beauty.
May this New Year bring you happiness and contentment and joy in family, friends and creative endeavors!

Your new studio is wonderful and I like how you did the shelves, keeps everything nearby and easy to find. I also love your view and the area, what a nice way to start out the day and reflect.

Whether looking inside or outside, the view is magnificent!
ReplyDeleteThat is a fabulous studio, everything as it should be. Size does not matter, it is what you fill the space with; tiny treasures, beautiful fabrics, bits and bobs and furry friends bidding you a happy day wherever your eyes rest. I love it and would consider myself a lucky lady to be able to create in such a place. And then, to walk onto pier and breathe in the ocean, you are right to be thankful, it is grand! My studio is in the house and I sometimes contemplate moving it to the tiny "cottage" smack in the middle of my garden. You have me thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful space, I wish I had a place where I could open up the doors like that!

I think you made a very wise decision to set your work space apart from your home. I don't know how it could be any more inviting, warm and cozy. I can't wait to see the magical art that comes next.
ReplyDeleteCheers and a great New Year to you, Susan.
Wow Susan...it's so fabulous! I love every nook and cranny. What a magical place to create your enchanting art. I love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful space! If we visit the island this summer, I'm most certainly going to try to visit. Your pictures make me long for the ocean, but I am trying very hard to appreciate the beauty of the mountains and rolling hills here in Calgary. My own sanctuary is my sewing studio. It makes me happy every time I spend time there and I always thank it and say goodbye when it's time to leave my space and get on with other errands of the day :)
ReplyDeleteSusan, How wonderful! I love it.
ReplyDeleteI loved what you wrote as well. It is peaceful where we work and wonderful to see you working on new things. I have always admired your work.
I am adding your blog to my links, Hope you don't mind.
